Turbine installation completed at Dudgeon

At the beginning of September A2SEA’s Sea Challenger completed the installation of 67 Siemens 6 MW turbines on the 402 MW Dudgeon Offshore Wind Farm.

The Dudgeon Offshore Wind Farm is owned by Statoil (35%), Masdar (35%) and Statkraft (30%) and is situated 32 km off the coast of the seaside town of Cromer in North Norfolk in the UK. When fully commissioned, the wind farm will provide well over 400,000 households with renewable power.
A2SEA headquartered in Danish Fredericia with subsidiaries in Germany and the UK is part of GeoSea and the DEME Group, an international market leader for complex marine engineering works. A2SEA is currently installing turbines at Race Bank Offshore Wind Farm. Upcoming projects include turbine installation on Arkona OWF, Hornsea Project One, Horns Rev 3 and East Anglia ONE.

On board the vessel, Master Jack Amtsbiller is also very pleased with the project and reports good lessons learned during the project execution: “Dudgeon has been a very good project for us. Especially Statoil have been very engaged; they have supported us in the safest and most efficient project execution. We always strive to ensure a safe and efficient project execution, and there was always time to work safe. This has been a big contributing factor to a good job carried out by all departments. The soil conditions on Dudgeon have been one of our biggest challenges to date. The soil cannot be compared to any other soil we have been jacking on, so we have gained very useful experience and knowledge from this project, too.”

Under the project leadership of the Bremen-based project developer wpd, the OWP Nordergründe GmbH & Co. KG completed installation of the transformer platform for the nearshore-project Nordergründe.

The substation for the Rentel offshore wind farm is expected to sail away from the STX yard in Saint-Nazaire, France on January 12, 2018. The offshore installation is scheduled for mid-January 2018.

Zentech and Renewables Resources International announced to build the first Jones Act compliant U.S. installation vessel. "This vessel will provide the now evolving U.S. Offshore Wind Industry with a much needed and cost competitive marine logistic solution,” stated Zentech in a press release. The U.S. Jones Act requires for all vessels that are transporting goods to and from U.S. ports, such as components for an offshore wind farm, to be U.S. built and operated. Zentech Incorporated is a marine engineering and naval architecture firm specializing in the offshore oil and gas and renewable energy industries.
