    Vineyard Wind: Heerema participates in largest US offshore wind project

    Dutch offshore contractor Heerema has been assigned to help build the first and largest commercial offshore wind farm in the United States. The prestigious 'Vineyard Wind LLC' project is the nation's first utility-scale offshore wind energy project. Situated 14 miles off the coast of Massachusetts, this project will generate clean, renewable, cost-competitive energy for over 400,000 homes and businesses, while reducing carbon emissions by over 1.6 million tons per year.     Maiden trip for sustainable crane vessel Sleipnir

    This week, Heerema’s newest vessel Sleipnir will begin her maiden voyage. Sleipnir, the world’s largest and strongest semi-submersible crane vessel (SSCV) was built in Singapore and will set course for Spain. The trip will take about 45 days. Read more

    Bladt Industries A/S first-movers at the US Offshore Wind Market

    Vineyard Wind LLC (Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners and Avangrid Renewables) and Bladt Industries have signed a contract for fabrication and delivery of the Vineyard Wind project’s offshore substation. The Vineyard Wind project will be first utility-scale offshore wind farm in the US. Bladt Industries is a global leader of substructures for offshore wind farms. Read more

    East Anglia ONE awards ODE Client Representatives contract

    International engineering and operations support services contractor ODE, an integral part of the DORIS Group, has been awarded a consultancy framework agreement by ScottishPower Renewables for the provision of client representatives during construction activities for the East Anglia ONE Offshore Windfarm. The agreement is the latest development in a ten-year relationship between ODE and ScottishPower Renewables, which plans to invest £2.5 billion in the East Anglia ONE project. Read more

    Techano, part of the Dutch Van Aalst Group, has secured a multiple offshore winch contract for a major upgrade project of a large North Sea rig. "Our offshore winches are designed and built for a highly specified North Sea rig currently undergoing a major upgrade," says Øystein Bondevik, Sales Director at Techano. Read more

    Bibby orders SMST gangway and 3D crane

    Damen Shipyards has awarded SMST a contract for the delivery of an Access & Cargo Tower and 3D Motion Compensated Crane for the new build Service Operation Vessel (SOV) of Bibby Marine Services. The SMST equipment helps Bibby to safely transfer their maintenance personnel and cargo from their Damen-built SOV to the offshore wind turbines. The vessel, sister ship to the Bibby WaveMaster1, will operate for EnBW and Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy in the offshore wind farms Hohe See and Albatros. Read more

    Safeway reaches record transfer speeds at latest offshore wind charter

    As from early October last year the Safeway motion compensated offshore access system of the Dutch Van Aalst Group is installed on the 95-metre long OCV ‘Olympic Intervention IV’, owned by Olympic Subsea ASA, Norway. Without any significant downtime, the 28 m long walk-to-work Seagull-type has safely transferred workers and their tools at a high pace from the ‘Olympic Intervention IV’ to offshore wind turbines of Adwen, part of Siemens.     World's most powerful commercial wind turbine successfully installed

    A hat-trick of offshore wind industry firsts has been achieved within a fortnight in North-east Scotland after the world’s most powerful single turbine was successfully installed on April 9th for Vattenfall’s European Offshore Wind Deployment Centre (EOWDC). The turbine is the first of 11 to be deployed at the facility in Aberdeen Bay. Two turbines will have a capacity of 8.8 MW, the other nine will have a capacity of 8.4 MW Read more

    North-east Scotland has marked a UK offshore wind first following the successful installation of the first pioneering suction bucket jacket foundation for Vattenfall’s 11-turbine European Offshore Wind Deployment Centre (EOWDC) in just 15 hours. The EOWDC in Aberdeen Bay is the first offshore wind project to deploy the foundations at commercial scale with each of the 11 steel jacket foundations weighing in at almost ten Boeing 747s.     From March 2018, EMS Maritime Offshore GmbH (EMO) will provide port facilities in Emden and logistics services to the wind turbine manufacturer MHI Vestas for the "Borkum Riffgrund 2" offshore wind farm. After the installation of the 56 V164‐8 MW wind turbines, MHI Vestas will commission the wind turbine generators and use the service base at Port Knock at the river Ems. Read more

The monthly Wind Trends Bulletin is based on a custom combination of three reanalysis datasets: ERA-Interim, MERRA, and CFSR.
