According to an analysis by Deutsche WindGuard, a total of 1,169 offshore wind turbines with an installed capacity of around 5,387 MW were connected to the grid as of 31.12.2017. According to figures from the industry work group AG Energiebilanzen, wind turbines at sea were able to increase their electricity production to 18.3 TWh in 2017. Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy will supply 62 units of its new 8 MW offshore wind turbine, the SG 8.0-167 DD, to the 500 MW Saint Brieuc project off the coasts of Brittany. The ordered direct drive wind turbine will replace Adwen’s AD 8-180 model after Siemens Gamesa has decided to focus on offshore direct drive platform. Read more

The offshore wind farm "Vikings" has for the first time fed electricity into the grid. After installation and interim commissioning of the last of 70 Adewen turbines, this is the next important milestone achieved.
