    Vineyard Wind: Heerema participates in largest US offshore wind project

    Dutch offshore contractor Heerema has been assigned to help build the first and largest commercial offshore wind farm in the United States. The prestigious 'Vineyard Wind LLC' project is the nation's first utility-scale offshore wind energy project. Situated 14 miles off the coast of Massachusetts, this project will generate clean, renewable, cost-competitive energy for over 400,000 homes and businesses, while reducing carbon emissions by over 1.6 million tons per year.     Maiden trip for sustainable crane vessel Sleipnir

    This week, Heerema’s newest vessel Sleipnir will begin her maiden voyage. Sleipnir, the world’s largest and strongest semi-submersible crane vessel (SSCV) was built in Singapore and will set course for Spain. The trip will take about 45 days. Read more

    Bladt Industries A/S first-movers at the US Offshore Wind Market

    Vineyard Wind LLC (Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners and Avangrid Renewables) and Bladt Industries have signed a contract for fabrication and delivery of the Vineyard Wind project’s offshore substation. The Vineyard Wind project will be first utility-scale offshore wind farm in the US. Bladt Industries is a global leader of substructures for offshore wind farms. Read more

  • Feasibility study: Test Stand for new wind turbines

    The Jülich Research Centre in Germany is evaluating the construction and operation of a large test stand for drive trains of wind turbines with gearboxes. The Centre for Wind Power Drives (CWD) of the RWTH Aachen is participating in a corresponding feasibility study and is interested in using the test rig later. Read more

    On 19 May, the installation vessel Sea Power erected the last of the 111 turbines at Anholt Offshore Wind Farm. Now, ahead awaits the job of having all of them delivering electricity to the Danish grid. More than 75 wind turbines are already in operation. Read more
  • Euros ships 81.6 m long rotor blade

    Three months after the inauguration of the prototype production facility in Sassnitz / Mukran on the German island of Rügen, Euros Entwicklungsgesellschaft für Windkraftanlagen mbH has delivered and shipped the first offshore rotor blade to their customer Mitsubishi. The rotor blades of this type, which have a length of 81.6 m and a mass of 32.5 t, are intended for use on Mitsubishi's 7 MW turbine.   • EDF, wpd and Alstom cooperate for France’s second offshore tender

    EDF Energies Nouvelles (EDF EN) and wpd offshore have announced the signing of a partnership agreement. The agreement formalizes both groups’ decision to combine their expertise in the French government’s second call for offshore wind tenders. Alstom will be the exclusive partner for the supply of wind turbines. Read more
  • Dong starts flidar measurement campaign in the Irish Sea

    According to the involved companies, the first commercial offshore wind measurement campaign using floating Lidar in European waters has kicked off. FLiDAR NV has deployed a Lidar buoy for Dong Energy in the southern East Irish Sea. The partnership initially involves a one year measurement campaign in the Irish Sea. Read more

    Seajacks International, offshore installation contractor, has entered into a contract with Samsung Heavy Industries to build an offshore wind farm installation vessel.
