The first of a number of transformers that will enable the transmission of renewable energy from the world’s largest offshore wind farm has been delivered. The transformers will play an integral role in the operation of three onshore convertor stations in East Riding of Yorkshire and on Teesside, that will eventually convert the current from the wind farm for transmission via the national grid network to 6 million UK homes.

The HLC (Heavy Lift Crane) 295000 is on board the “Orion”, the next generation offshore installation vessel by DEME. Being the largest crane Liebherr has ever built, it has a maximum lifting capacity of 5,000 Tonnes. On 18 February 2022, the first monopile for the Baltic Eagle offshore wind farm was completed. The pile weighs 1,363 tonnes with a diameter of 9 metres. Baltic Eagle is already the second wind farm project of the Spanish energy company Iberdrola in the German Baltic Sea. Read more

Temporis Investment Management (“Temporis”) has on October 11th announced the launch of Inis Offshore Wind, a new Irish renewable energy firm with plans to develop at least 1GW of offshore wind capacity by 2030. Farstad, Volstad and Kleven are combining forces to establish the ship-owning company Norwind Offshore. The company will offer specialised vessels designed specifically for advanced maritime operations in the development and service of the offshore wind sector. Norwind Offshore has entered into a contract with Vard for the delivery of three vessels by 2024 - with options for two more vessels in 2025. The first vessel is due to be delivered in 2022.
