Total offshore wind capacity in Europe stands at 12.631 MW

WindEurope released its report on the European offshore wind key trends and statistics for 2016. Offshore wind investments in 2016 reached a record € 18.2 billion with 4.9 GW of new capacity financed. Germany, the Netherlands and the UK were the only countries to install in 2016 and the first 8 MW turbine went into the water at Burbo Bank Extension wind farm.

Expansion figures for Offshore Wind Power in Germany

New offshore wind turbines with a total capacity of 818 MW went online in Germany in 2016. The industry views this expansion as positive and expects that, combined with optimised turbine technology and operating concepts, this will also lead to cost reduction in the forthcoming tendering processes in Germany.

DONG Energy has placed a 450 MW order with MHI Vestas Offshore Wind for the Borkum Riffgrund 2 project in Germany.

Northern HeliCopter (NHC) with its holistic medical care concept WINDEAcare will supply medical services for the offshore wind farm Merkur in the German Bight during installation and commissioning phase.

PNE WIND sold offshore wind project Atlantis I to Vattenfall

PNE WIND sold offshore project “Atlantis I”, located in the North Sea, to Swedish utility Vattenfall. The German wind farm developer remains involved in the project as service provider.

Irina Lucke is the first woman to be elected as chair of WAB. The previous chair, Dr Klaus Meier, will be stepping down to the position of deputy chairman. WAB's focus in 2017 will be to provide even more information about political developments to members and promote networking.

Vattenfall to proceed with Danish near shore wind farms

A majority in the Danish Parliament (Folketing) on November, 18th that it will approve Danish Near Shore (DNS) wind farms. This means that Vattenfall can proceed with plans to develop the 350 MW project off Denmark's west coast.

LM Wind Power to supply blades for CSIC HZ Windpower's new offshore turbine

At the China Wind Power (CWP) in Beijing LM Wind Power announced a strategic collaboration with the Chinese wind turbine manufacturer CSIC HZ Windpower. LM Wind, owned by GE, agrees to deliver blades for CSIC HZ Windpower’s newly launched H151-5 MW platform.

Gamesa’s shareholders ratify the merger with Siemens Wind Power

In an extraordinary general meeting in Zamudio (Vizcaya, Spain), 99.75 % of Gamesa’s shareholders ratified the resolutions needed to close the merger with Siemens Wind Power. The payment of a special cash dividend of € 3.591 per share was also approved.
