New offshore blade for lower wind sites

LM Wind Power has successfully completed installation and testing of a 66.5 meter wind turbine blade, ordered by Hitachi, Ltd. for offshore application.

LM Wind Power and Hitachi commenced installation of the 66.5 meter blade in 2016 with the aim of optimizing Hitachi's 5.2 MW platform to operate effectively also in lower wind sites.

The new LM Wind Power blades will now enable Hitachi to offer their 5.2 MW wind turbine with a rotor size of 136 meters. The 66.5 meter blades have been tested on a wind turbine of the Kashima Port Fukashiba Wind Power Station in east Japan since October last year. The blades were produced in LM Wind Power's blade manufacturing facility in Jiangyin, China.

LM Wind Power CEO, Marc de Jong said: "We are very pleased to support Hitachi, a leader in the development of wind power in Japan, in this offshore development of a new rotor for their 5.2 MW platform. We look forward to seeing the 66.5 meter blades generate clean, renewable energy in lower wind sites along the coast of Japan's main island."

LM Wind Power announced that they will open a new wind turbine blade factory dedicated to the offshore market in Cherbourg, France. The Cherbourg plant will have the capability to manufacture the world's longest blade at 88.4 meters.

LM Wind Power, one of the world's leading manufacturers of wind turbine blades, announced today that work on its new factory in Cherbourg, Normandy, has commenced. This was marked with a foundation stone ceremony at the construction site, chaired by French Prime Minister, Bernard Cazeneuve, in the presence of industry and representatives from the local partners, including Normandy region, the Manche Department, the local community of Cherbourg and the port authority, Ports Normands Associés.  The company brings an initial investment of more than € 100 million into the development of the Cherbourg site which is expected to grow to a capacity between 1.2 and 2.0 GW.

LM Wind Power, a world leading designer and manufacturer of blades for wind turbines, today announced the addition of yet another blade factory to its global manufacturing set up. The new facility will be located in the Baodi district in the north eastern part of China, 40 km from LM Wind Power's existing plant in Tianjin that was established in 2001 as the first foreign wind industry company in the area.

Siemens Wind Power is collaborating with US­based company SkySpecs to deploy automated drone technology for onshore and offshore wind turbine inspections. The goal of the collaboration is to develop a push­button inspection system that is faster, repeatable and more efficient than existing methods.
